Natural hair can be overwhelming with so much information available just a click away. It’s hard not to become a product junkie with a million different kind of products available all promising to 'pop' and ‘elongate’ your curls whilst leaving it 'pillow' soft!
A part of me feels going through and surviving the ‘product junkie’ phase is part of the journey but boy does it make a dent in your bank account. So to help my new naturals and anyone who wants to curb their natural product buying addiction I have put together a list of the essential products. Once you have these you shouldn't NEED to continuously buy more. I have also included some product suggestions which I am using right now. You’ll be glad to know, most of them are budget friendly!

1) Sulphate-free shampoo
A moisturising and nutrient rich shampoo is essential in removing build-up and keeping your hair and scalp clean. Right now I am loving Coco Amo Hydrate shampoo. Not only does it leave my hair moisturised after a good clean but it smells so yummy…coconut heaven!

2) Deep Treatment/Mask
Moisture is crucial for healthy hair. A deep penetrating, rich with nutrients hair treatment/mask is essential to combat dry, brittle hair. I love to make my own (Greek Yoghurt Treatment) but on the days I choose to use a shop bought product I
love Macadamia Deep Repair Masque, a revitalising hair reconstructor for
dry, damaged hair.

3) Moisturising conditioner/ Co-wash
Conditioner must have LOTS of slip! This is absolutely necessary to ensure when you are attempting to detangle your hair. The extra slip will make your hair maintenance and life so much easier. I tend to go for more creamy leave-in's as they completely coat my hair and are not easily absorbed stopping my hair from drying out mid detangling.
There are many different budget friendly conditioners, currently I am using Tresemme Naturals as a conditioner & co-wash to detangle my hair. I even use this as a pre-poo.

4) Leave-in conditioner/ Moisturiser
This is the most crucial product in my eyes! Go for conditioner which are mini treatments, perfect for giving your hair a mid-week boost. There are many on the market, right now I am loving ORS Monoi Oil Leave-in Conditioning Crème. Not only does it have amazing slip, it leaves my hair feeling soft whilst leaving my curls defined and smelling sweet!
Big Hair Moisture Me Whipped Butter is a great moisturiser without leaving hair feeling greasy.

5) Styler
This is tricky and where I became a product junkie.
To help reduce the number of styling products you buy, decide what your main 3 go-to hair styles are and ONLY buy the products needed to create them.
My three go to styles are wash & go’s, twist-outs and buns. Stylers which are thick and creamy work best for my hair and the stylers I re-buy (not all at once) are Kinky Curly Knot Today, Curl Enhancing Smoothie, Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Crème, Texture My Way Styling Set Foam.
6) Oil
Oils are a great way to add essential nutrients and moisturising properties hair needs to become healthy.
- Hot Oil Treatments: prevent dry scalp, shampoo stripping all the moisture from hair and minimizes damage from daily styling
- Deep Condition: Essential oils can be added to hair treatments to boost the benefits
- Sealant: Use a small amount to seal in products for longer lasting moisture
